Organic, Fresh Yellowroot

Be forewarned, Yellow Root tea tastes nasty. Most people try adding a little sweetener first, but we have no idea if this affects the function. You may want to try lemon, lime or honey too.

It is said that Yellow Root is one of the best herbal remedies for acid reflux. We have also heard that chewing 2 inches of the root will instantly relieve heartburn. Be sure to chase it with your favorite beverage to wash down the taste.

TIPS

You may want to place the Yellow Root in some cheesecloth and tie securely at both ends, or in some other type of strainer.

CAUTION

Yellow Root itself can be harmful if swallowed or eaten (swallowing the juice when chewed is not harmful - nasty tasting, but not harmful). We have heard of people chewing Yellow Root, but not ever of having eaten or swallowed in any amount.

What you do with it, you do so at your own risk. We do not recommend that you put it in your mouth, chew, eat or swallow it.

Let's make 2, 8 ounce glasses of Yellow Root tea.

  • 1/2 oz. of Yellow Root Stems (each bundle we sell weighs approximately 1.5 oz and should yield this recipe at least 3 times)
  • 18 ozs. of clean, drinking water
  • 2 Tsp of sugar (diabetics use your favorite substitute)
  • 1 whole lemon, cut in quarters
  • 4 Tsp lemon juice
  • Cheese Cloth (wrap your stems in and secure at both ends with string)

Bring the water to boil - Add Stems, Lemon Quarters - Boil for 1 minute then add the sugar/sweetener - Boil for another minute - Remove from heat.

Boiling Water is HOT!!! Be Careful.

Pour liquid into a pitcher large enough to hold 18 oz.  Add the lemon juice. It is recommended to drink the tea when it is hot rather than over ice. Be sure to re-heat the remainder before using it.

*You may reuse the root stems to make another batch of tea. Do not refrigerate them, but keep them in an air-tight container out of direct sunlight. Each bundle will make approximately 1 gallon of tea, or about 8 times the above recipe. Always try to use fresh Yellow Root and discard after 3 months.

We make no claims whatsoever about Yellow Root other than we pick it from the edge of the cool running waters in the north Georgia mountains and send it to you within 2 business days of you placing the order.
